CASE STUDY
Role & Scope
Concept development, copywriting, storyboarding, motion direction, and visual design
THE BIG IDEA
Data privacy is a complex and often invisible issue—especially for young audiences who use social media daily without thinking about its implications. The challenge was to create snappy, scroll-stopping reels that could quickly deliver a disturbing truth without feeling preachy or boring.
The Challenge
“You are the product.”
Each reel acts like a fake ad—using the same language, colors, and pacing as influencer content, only to flip the message and reveal the manipulation behind it. The visuals mimic platform-native design before glitching out or turning dark, leaving viewers with a jarring moment of realization.
THE PROCess
Research & Writing:
Looked into platform data practices and translated them into short, accessible scripts
Storyboard Development:
Sketched out 10-second scenes that could visually flip tone halfway through
Motion Strategy:
Planned glitch transitions, quick cuts, and tempo shifts to amplify the message
Design Mockups:
Used UI elements from Instagram to create a fake-but-familiar aesthetic
Reel 1: A smiling influencer promoting a product, interrupted by the caption “Not you buying—you being sold.”
Reel 2: A fake “filter” overlay turns into a data scanner, extracting location, voice, contacts
Reel 3: A like counter morphs into a dollar sign, tied to a shadowy buyer profile
Final Outcome
The series delivers bite-sized doses of unsettling truth, disguised as content. It leverages the visual language of the platforms it critiques—making it ideal for use in educational campaigns, nonprofits, or activist marketing.
TAKEAWAYS
This project taught me how to weaponize platform-native design for critique, and how to say a lot in under 10 seconds. It also strengthened my approach to storytelling through contrast—building tension through pacing, visuals, and reversal.
